ITAM / Asset Tagger

QR Scanner

Scan a QR label on Sophie's MacBook and jump straight to device detail, faster than searching 85 Austin assets by serial number.

Real-world scenario

Carlos Reyes · IT Admin at Bluewave Labs

During the Austin audit Carlos scans QR labels desk-by-desk. Sophie's MacBook opens instantly showing AUS-ENG-042, her assignee record, and the closed keyboard ticket, confirming the asset matches WorkVerge.

Before you begin

  • Device has a QR code generated and attached
  • Camera permission in browser; logged into WorkVerge

Overview

QR Scanner uses your device camera to read asset labels and open the matching device record. Carlos uses it for quick lookups during support visits and as part of Austin office walkthroughs before formal audit mode sessions.

Step-by-step

  1. 1

Open ITAM → Physical Assets → Asset Tagger → QR Scanner

Allow camera access when the browser prompts, you need HTTPS or localhost.

  2. 2

Point the camera at a device QR label

Hold steady until WorkVerge recognizes the code, usually one to two seconds.

  3. 3

    Review the device detail page

You land on the linked device, e.g. Sophie's MacBook Pro 14 with assignee and ticket history.

  4. 4

Take action or scan the next device

During Austin audits Carlos scans, verifies, and moves to the next desk without searching the device list.

Phone camera alternative

Any QR reader or phone camera works, the code encodes a WorkVerge URL. Open the link in a logged-in browser to reach device detail. Asset Tagger scanner keeps you inside WorkVerge without switching apps during audits.

Example scan

Sophie's MacBook. Austin 3F desk 42

  • QR encodes: Device detail URL for AUS-ENG-042
  • Scan result: MacBook Pro 14. Sophie Park
  • Workplace: Austin Office, 3rd floor
  • Carlos verifies: Serial matches sticker; device present ✓

Use Audit Mode for compliance

Casual scans use QR Scanner. Formal Austin inventory with timestamps and reports uses Audit Mode instead.
